The Guitar Videos to Learn Guitar

guitar video

To do it properly, you should use guitar videos to learn guitar. Some of the greatest players in the world claim to never having guitar lessons. So how did they learn? By watching others play.

Jimi Hendrix watched others play as often as he could, and copied them using an unstringed broomstick, then on a ukulele with only one string until his dad got him a white Supro Ozark. His first ‘proper’ guitar. Eric Clapton watched his favorites play, as did many others. Neither of these two great guitarists used a book or CD (there weren’t any CDs then), but learned through visual and audio means.

So how does all this relate to video? A guitar video is no more than a representation of others playing guitar, and showing you how to do what they are doing, and that is how these guys learned - though without the ’showing’. What that means to you is that you are learning the same way as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, but with the advantage that the guys playing guitar are showing you exactly what they are doing.

Had these two had that advantage while listen to and watching their own heroes, just imaging how great they could have been - or perhaps it would be better to say that they would have become great a lot sooner. You have that advantage when you use a guitar video. There are other advantages when you use guitar videos to learn guitar.

If you want to learn a specific style of play, or even pick up a few of the techniques and tricks used by guitarists to get certain effects, then it is virtually impossible to get that through a book or CD. You have to see it being done to get the idea and learn quickly how to do it yourself.

Take guitar harmonics, for example. These are difficult to pick up, but once you get the idea, then you will be able to use them at any time. The theory of harmonics is likely easier to learn from a book, but not the execution of them. If you get a good guitar video, then it will be accompanied by a book that should provide you with the theory behind the lessons and techniques you are learning.

Even better, use a guitar learning membership site, where you can watch any of a number of videos teaching the same techniques, such as guitar harmonics, in a number of different ways according to the teacher on the video. These membership sites offer written guidance and theory on all the lessons that you can print out and read at your leisure. So you get the best of both: written instruction and video.

The written part makes it easier for you to understand what you are doing. Guitar harmonics, for instance, or learning blues. What is a blues note? It is easy to play when you see it being done, but the written part will explain on the staff how that lower pitched note makes all the difference. You can also see a 7th chord written beside the major, and compare the difference. Then play it and see how it sounds.

How about spider walking, pull offs, vibrato and all the other techniques used by solo guitarists, and do you really believe you will be able to learn fingerpicking style from a book, or just listening to it on a CD? Video is king when it comes to learning guitar, and there are a whole host of guitar videos available to help you to learn guitar.

Written guitar instruction has a part to play, but it is through guitar videos that you are going to learn guitar with respect to the actual playing of it. And that, at the end of the day, is what counts as both Jimi and Eric could tell you. At least Eric could, and for the ultimate in visual learning you can’t beat the guitar teaching membership site with a whole host of videos from great guitar teachers using a number of different guitar genres and teaching styles. Choose the one you like best and get learning. You can always change mid-stream because the great thing about these sites is that you are not stuck with what you bought: you have a choice of great guitar videos to learn guitar the best way there is - by watching and copying as Eric and Jimi did. And Chuck Berry for that matter!
